The first half of the junior cricket season concluded on Saturday with the traditional Parents vs Kids match and the Dads vs Lads.
Matthew Curtin and David Bradbury got the parents' innings off to a blistering start with a partnership of over fifty in their four overs. The rest of the parents' batting was slightly less distinguished and as a result of the U11 rule that each dismissal means the team loses five runs, the kids were set a score of 42 to win in 16 overs. This they chased down with ease, with some splendid hitting at the end from a variety of batsmen. The Dads, several of whom were persuaded to stay on after the U11 game managed a score of 101 in 10 overs against the lads, with Bill Bayley showing a pleasant on-drive and Paul Willey propping up the innings at the end. A slightly bewildered Shravan was coralled into keeping wicket for the Dads, whose bowling skills were not quite in the same league as the batting effort. Nevertheless, 10 an over proved too high an ask for the lads, although Matthieux, Joris and Hugo played some intelligent shots (Joris's full blooded pull for four was a highlight) and ran their singles hard in the final few overs. Junior cricket will recommence in the last weekend of August. Full details are at: http://www.saclub.org/index.php/children/junior-cricket
