A great end to the season as we beat La Salesienne 7-1 yesterday registering our biggest win of the season.
Alain (2), Laurent (2), Yan, Stéphane and Dan got on the score sheet in what proved to be an unbalanced contest as we went 5-0 up inside the first half.
Congratulations go mainly to Alain for his first start of the season as it was he who proved a real threat in attack in the absence of Pascal. He showed both strength and skill to upset their defenders and was rewarded with two well-taken goals.
Another positive was the first appearance of Andy Canon at centre half. He is looking to become a member and looks like a fantastic prospect. His reading of the game looked perfect and his composure when driving the ball out of defence could prove invaluable if he was to join the team on a regular basis. A good cricketer too from what we've been told!
Goal of the day should be given to Yan who unleashed a long-range strike, after some good build up play by Andy, Paul W and Paul B. You could argue that their only goal was very clean too as they took up some good positions between the lines to pass the ball around and find some space in the box; no speed but good ball control and well worked team goal.
Ben didn't have to be quite as busy as usual in midfield and was denied a goal by a good save only for Dan to be on hand for the rebound. Robin was efficient at right back and was given freedom up the pitch to put in some good crosses into the box.
Back from New Zealand, young Benjamin was a handful in support of Alain up front and was unlucky to be flagged offside when he scored.
Mixed emotions for Stéphane who had to leave the field limping ten minutes before the end but had scored his only goal of the season as the captain asked him to take a penalty in the first half. As cool as you like down the middle. Could give some lessons to some of the Celtic players...
