A great landmark for our Poppies vs Bleuets game as the winner of this third match was presented with a trophy that will now be contested every year. Alas for our XI, they couldn't repeat their win of last year and so it was Jouy's captain who left with the 'soupière aux décors de coquelicots et de bleuets' that we will hopefully see one day decorate our trophy cabinet.
Standard AC fielded a very young side as Joris made his debut while teenagers Declan, Max and Camille also featured. The first twenty minutes made for an even contest as they seemed to pass the ball around neatly but to no great effect while we managed to create one or two openings one from which Declan was unlucky to see the ball fizz wide of the post.
However, a sloppy pass in defence gave them an easy goal and when Dan had to come off injured, we lost our shape and struggled to make any impact letting them take a 3-0 lead at half-time. Rich in goal was in for a busy day and flew himself around at everything even colliding with the post sacrificing himself to save a snap shot that was could have gone anywhere.
Drinks at half time seemed to freshen things up as we started well following a tactical switch. Camille playing deeper was invited to shoot after some good pressure play and scored his first goal for the Club lobbing their keeper from the edge of the box with a well-taken strike. However the opposition showed more class especially in midfield with good build up play and despite all the energy we put in, the pressure led to a string of defensive errors and they went on to score another three goals to make it an emphatic 6-1 win thus avenging the 5-2 score line of last year.
They joined in for drinks to cap off a great time out as beyond the score line it must be noted that the pitch was perfect and the sun just made the whole thing quite delightful.
The junior section also joined in for Lunch and then suddenly it was time for the Parents&Kids tournament with an impressive turn out of 38 participants (1/3 parents, 2/3 kids).
Four teams played in a round robin. The minutes silence was perfectly observed, the sun was still flooding in and the games were played in fantastic spirit. In the 6 games that were played, the scores were particularly tight although Eric's team did show its superiority by winning its last game 3-0. Great goalkeeping from Brice yet again, enthusiastic wing play by Emma, assured defending by Alexander, spectacular volley by Paul are among the highlights as much as Jonathan's ball skills, Edouard's brave tackling and Inès' smile in all circumstances. A special mention also for Matt who supervised the games from the side lines.
Great day out, thanks to all.
