One of the first cold mornings of the season saw the SAC lining up 15 players against FIFFA.
A lot of very promising new blood; two fathers and sons (Gérald and Charles de Nanteuil, and Paul and Joseph de Rosen), Julien Desclozeaux, and also the return of Robin Groom and Benjamin MacIntyre.
The SAC started solidly until an unfortunate misunderstanding between Stephane & Rich led to the ball trickling into the net to give the opposition their first goal.
This didn’t deter the team who fought back and after relentless work from the terrier Charles, he was rewarded with a goal.
We continued to push up but unfortunately were caught out on three occasions where FIFFA capitalized with clever lobs over SAC’s defence and a fast attack to finish the first half with a 4-1 lead.
The SAC started the second half by putting pressure on the opposition and dictated the game for about 20 minutes. There were many chances of scoring and after plugging away we managed to get a goal back.
However, the comeback was not to be. Hoping to capitalize on this second goal, we continued to push forward only to be caught out with 3 well hit shots lobbing Rich to make the final score 2 – 7. We also suffered several injuries; Mikael, Ben (Sharp) and Stephane hobbled off (we hope nothing serious) and finished the game with only 10 players.
A score which did not reflect the game.
Not the best result to Gerald’s captaincy but it is going to be an exciting second part of the season seeing this new group organise and learn to play together. We are looking forward to the next games.
