Bridge, Tennis, Golf, Fitness, Yoga,
Did you get your entry form off on time for the British Charitable Fund's Bridge Fundraiser on Thursday, June 1st? It was due in today, 15th May - but you might still have a chance.
The ALT’s team played their last pool match on Friday, 12th May against AT Neuilly and won 3-0. After 3 victories and 1 defeat, they go through in either 1st or 2nd position to the « Tableau Final ».
A big thanks to the members who braved the weather forecast as much as the weather this Sunday for the Tennis Ladder day and brunch.
We played a handful of matches for the Individual Doubles Ladder. Some cracking passing shots and powerful serving, respectively, from Fenella Fitzpatrick and Fabrice Galland left them at the top of the ladder. Please check out the full details at www.tennisrungs.com - the site which is hosting our tennis ladders - and email if you have any ladder questions.
This coming Sunday, we'll cross fingers for brighter, better weather and have some courts reserved for Social Tennis and brunch from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Please come along to meet other tennis playing members.
The 37th edition of the Spring Cup was held at Villarceaux on Saturday, May 13th where some 70+ players competed in typical Spring weather (some sun, some wind, some cloud but NO rain). The conditions seemed to favour the men who, overall, played better than the ladies.
The Castrol Cup (men’s gross) was won by Patrice Guiader with 27 points. The ladies’ gross cup – the Financial Times Spring Cup – was won by his wife, Karine who also scored 27 points.
The net Spring Cups were won by Véronique Guermonprez and Roland Leguené with 37 and 40 points respectively. Roland also won the Men's longest drive. Solena Person won the Ladies’ longest drive.
Due to a mix up at the secretariat the “Nearest the Pin” competition was a mixed event instead of the usual Men’s and Ladies’ individual event. This very first (and last) version of the event was won by Claude Jacques.
Standard Athletic Club players seemed to perform better in the lucky dip than on the golf course. This said, there were good performances from John McCallum (36 points) and Jeanne Delacroix (35 points). Emmanuel Vergé and Muriel Jones were also mentioned in dispatches.
