Saturday 22nd SAC U16s vs LFP Morangis match report

Last Saturday we hosted LFP Morangis for a friendly match.

Originally scheduled for 10 overs a side, players on both sides have learnt to get through their overs in much less time and in the end 15 were bowled in the time available while Joe and several volunteer parents ran the U11 session (thanks Joe!)

SAC batted first and recovered well after Nick had the misfortune to hit his first ball so solidly off the back foot that the bowler was able to accept a caught and bowled. Louis-Gabriel and Jean batted with gusto before Jean was left stranded by a call for an over-ambitious single from his suitably penitent batting partner. Alexander avoided this fate later in the innings but Alisdair and Sam were also run out during the scramble for extra runs in the last few overs of the innings. In this grade of cricket, wides are two runs and are not re-bowled so even if no individual batsman made double figures, SAC could let the wides go and watch the score mount quickly - a tactic that LFP would later use themselves to good effect. Guest player Sanjey played some delicate late cuts and Benoit a couple of thumping pull shots before retiring to let others have a go.

There was much to admire in the techniques of the LFP players who had first learnt the game in Afghanistan. In reply to SAC's total of 86, Louis-Gabriel took a sharp caught and bowled in the third over and later took a well-judged catch in the outfield off Nick, while guest player Nicolas was entrusted with the last over. LFP Morangis needed 8 to win with wickets in hand, which came down to 3 to win off the last ball. Amid much excitement, Nicolas bowled his club to a tie off the last ball. Both sides are looking forward to the rematch in September.

LFP SAC Juniors

Junior Cricket mid-season festival

The first half of the Junior Cricket season concludes this Saturday with the long-anticipated Parents vs Kids (U11s) and Lads vs Dads (U16s) matches. There's been a lot of trash-talking in the lead-up, so we anticipate two keenly contested matches.
