SAC hosted the Jolly Wallabies (a touring team of Australian expats based in Singapore) over the weekend.
Friday night’s T20 match was unfortunately called to an early end by the rain after 16 overs, with SAC on top following some excellent batting from Dan Foden, in particular. Great also to see the return of Ratha Rala in SAC colours who ended 18 not out when the rain came. The rain did leave more time for beer with the tourists after the match. Silver lining and all that!
On Saturday the rain stayed away and we got a full 40-overs match in. The Wallabies won the toss and batted, but had to work hard to get through to 174 for 9 off their 40 in the face of some excellent SAC bowling. Wickets were shared around. A highlight was Andrew Macintyre’s reinvention from pace bowler to leg spinner which brought two wickets. Two wickets also for Jyothykumar Devaraj and John Hardy. In reply, Thodi Andersson smashed 51 off 29 balls – in the process bringing up 500 runs for the season (skipper did the averages last night!) – and from there the chase was easy. An excellent unbeaten 53 also from Sahil Lodha, and an 8 wicket win for SAC. We then joined the Wallabies in Paris for an excellent dinner to end their tour.
