The results of our Individual tournament on 19th June are attaching below - the overall ranking and by line. So I would like to congratulate Jane Maurin, 2nd overall and 2nd in the West line with 58.73%, Jean-Francois du Couedic and Ghislaine Dubau, tying for 3rd place overall with 58.33% and, respectively, 3rd in the West line and 1st in the East line, Claudia Rubin and Annick Gruselle, tying for 5th place overall with 57.94% and, respectively, 1st in the South line and 1st in the North line.
I think it is true to say that the Wests had a slight advantage over everyone else in having some nice hands with more points than most, and I am afraid it is completely by chance that I happened to have the lucky West seat myself (and came 1st with 59.13%). I was originally supposed to be North at table 11, when I was told before dinner there was one extra player, so I removed myself and re-arranged others. When everyone sat down to play, we realized this person was already seated under another surname, so I took the empty seat in West. Also I must add that at some tables, players were not always sitting in the right place at the right time, so the results might not be 100% accurate. But I hope everyone enjoyed the tournament all the same.
I should like to thank all of those who participated in the evening and contributed to its success. I am grateful to Jean, Ghislaine, Jane, Christiane and of course Anne, who invited many friends from outside the Club and members of the Trefle Meudonnais to join us and make up a record number of 11 tables! Thank you Pat, Maureen, Joyce and Claude and others who helped get everything ready before 7 o'clock and helped clear away afterwards, and, of course, Anne, Sebastien, Mario and Frederic who all concocted a lovely dinner for us in the absence of the official cook - what an incredible joint effort!!!
Our last Workshop of the season is on Friday 29 June; the lesson begins at 11am with exercises and prepared hands, followed by a barbecue lunch and a convivial match or mini-tournament in the afternoon - please contact Claude () if you would like to take part.
Although there will be no more tournaments or workshops until September or October, bridge continues at the Club throughout the summer - in the Bridge Room or out in the gardens - at the weekend, or during the week.
Wishing you happy holidays and look forward to seeing you all very soon.
