It was a tough night for SAC's Squash teams; Team 1, n° 3 in the league, playing away, lost 4/1 away to the league n° 2, Verrières, despite some hard-fought matches. Meanwhile, Team 2 played CAL Squash at home but lost the 5th deciding match for a 3/2 loss overall.
What's been going on
Footballers had their first match of the year against FIFFA. They had an enjoyable game but lost 5-3 - which is better than the 7-1 defeat last time they played...
Last Sunday also saw the restart of Sunday Brunches and the first of the traditional January Oysters and Black velvet at 6 o'clock on Sunday evenings - oysters for those who remembered to order their oysters by 4 o'clock on Friday afternoon!
The new deadline for first-round matches Snooker Tournament to be played is now the Sunday the 27th of January. Over the weekend several matches were played in the Open Singles and Open Veterans' sections. Ian Jones, Paul and Joris Willey, and Andrew Taylor all progressed in the Singles while Veterans Ian Cully and Dougie Anderson are locked in battle at one frame.
Fitness started the new session with the introduction of a new class on Mondays at 12:15, Pilates Basic Mat Progression.
What's coming this weekend and after
Today Bridgers are enjoying the first daytime Workshop of the year, the main subject is discussing what you would bid with the hands shown after an opening by your partner and a "take-out double" by your right-hand opponent.
Both FitnessandYogaare continuing with a full schedule.
The Centenary Oak is back with a full food offering starting on Saturday with croissants at 11 followed by lunch (entrecôte & fries), then on Sunday a full Brunch and later, at 6, Oysters and Black Velvet to look forward to from 6 o'clock. Please reserve your Oysters by 4 PM TODAY!
On Sunday morning our Footballers leap into action away against Vésinet Sport Club International, with whom they drew 2-2 last time. The Juniors will be playing there too.
Don't forget that if you want to join in the Burns Night excitement a week on Saturday you must book with Mario by Sunday 20th!

The Search is still on for a volunteer Newsletter Editor!
The Club Management is looking for a News Editor whose responsibility is to compile the weekly newsletter from the input provided by Management, Staff, the Section heads and members. The News Editor should be fluent in English, preferably a native speaker. The time commitment needed is a few hours a week. The management would hope for a long-term commitment to the post from the volunteer. Please contact Matthew Curtin () if you're interested.

Today we had a very nice game against FIFFA, but unfortunately lost 5-3. (Actually better than our last meeting!) Next Sunday we play Vésinet Sport Club International away, hoping to do better than our 2-2 draw last time. And our Juniors will be playing there too.
Last weekend saw several exciting matches being played in the Open Singles and Open Veterans sections of the Tournament.

Saturday: Croissants & Pains au chocolat. Lunch: Ham and salad, cheese and salad sandwiches. ham and cheese, tomato and mozzarella paninis; vegetable soup, vegetable quiche; entrecote and fries. Sunday Brunch: All the usual plus Roasted chicken legs and fries. Sunday evening: Prawns, Fish soup, Salmon blinis and Oysters - portions of 6, 9 or 12. Please place your order for oysters by 4:00 pm on Friday 18th January.
Pilates and Step classes are on full schedule. The new Pilates Basic Mat Progression class on Mondays at 12:15 pm has started. Please check the SAC website for the full programme and as usual contact Pamela Hennebert for any additional information.

The AGM of the SAC Cricket Section will be held at the Club at 1:30 pm.
Briefly, it's subscription renewal time again; the Spring weekend outing is to Dieppe (26-28th April); some more dates for your diaries and a summary of the Rules changes that came into force on the 1st January 2019.
