Spring is in the air! The tennis season will soon be in full swing and players are already flocking to the courts.
While it cheers us up to witness renewed enthusiasm despite the daily curfew and other restrictions, we are fully aware that the legacy situation of our courts and the reservation system means that we are not getting the most of what we have.
But change is on the way. Fixing these issue has been a major focus of the team, so watch out for improvements in the coming weeks!
Firstly ... clay courts reopening... we ran a competitive process and are pleased to have a new, lower-cost provider with the best name recognition in the business to carry out the annual resurfacing, starting in mid-April. So be ready to hit the ground by April 21st.
Secondly, we are pleased to deliver on the commitment to renovate court 3. Work will begin by late May, with our 7 other courts open and available for play. In less than a month, this should bring a new addition to our existing synthetic courts with a state-of-the-art membrane tennis surface infilled with ceramic coated quartz sand. This choice is the result of extensive testing of surfaces by our top competition players, as well as those who are later in their careers. The brand new court 3 will help release the pressure on winter booking.
With this end in mind, we are also updating our reservation system to increase capacity, restore the privilege of doubles over singles; when courts are busy, singles players should invite, or allow, two others to join them.
Renewing this longstanding tradition of the Club has not been technically possible with the tennis reservation software that was implemented around 2015. This, too, is about to change so more of us can benefit from our renewed facilities.
By the end of the summer, a new booking software will be in place, preventing bottlenecks for the next winter season.
Last but not least, we take this opportunity to remind you of the 3 pillars of booking etiquette to ensure that playing time is shared fairly across Members.
